[Before I tell you the story behind this cool remix project, lets get the mucky stuff out of the way. I don’t know if you’re having a similar experience, but world events have been choking the hell out of my muse lately. I spent the last few weeks just staring at my computer, clicking random things… staring blankly at all the windows… not really registering what was in front of me.
It was all feeling... trivial. And that’s when the red flags started flying. I had to remind myself just how important making music is to me; a key factor of my well being. I also realized that my creative energy, while trying to protect itself, was also hiding just below the surface of this thinly veiled funk.
So I want to urge all my friends to keep at it. Even if you don’t feel it at first... give yourselves the opportunity to lose yourself in creative explorations. We all need time away from the constant noise. And frankly, who better to handle a quarantine than creative people. We have all our toys readily available. :D Now back to the song.]
Today, I’m excited to share with you my latest remix; a special invitation from my good friend Jason Mowry (
soundcloud.com/lazydadamusic,
soundcloud.com/asleepwithheadphones), to appear on his album ‘Headroom’, coming out April 7th, 2020; (Label: Pink Moon.
lazydadamusic.bandcamp.com). Jason is another of the fine folks I encountered while hanging out in Eddie Shook’s ‘Anything Goes’ chat room (so, thanks for that, Eddie. You’re heavily to blame for this one too. Haha).
Jason mentioned the challenges of tuning a gourd (I can’t tune a kazoo, so I can only imagine). And the lyrics are very much about this evolving Man/Gourd relationship; a bond any musician can respect. Here’s a little message about the album from Jason himself: “This album is being released as a ‘free release/name your price’ for now, during virus lockdowns and whatnot.” It's possible he's trying to save the world; offering up sonic treats to keep our minds preoccupied… and I’m on board with that. ‘Music Soothes the Scattered Peeps’ as the old saying goes.
I hope you enjoy my latest Remix, ‘Oh, My Gourd’, (based off of Lazy Dada’s original track, ‘Kalimba’.) :D
Jason Mowry: kalimba, a wee bit of percussion, and vocals
D.D. Danahy: ebow
GrevusAnjl: all the other weird stuff
