J.Gorecki Justin is one of those strange breeds that can seem right at home in the middle of any style of music. A musical chameleon for modern times.

about

(Before getting to the meat of this song, lettuce (bad joke, I know) take a moment to recognize a really cool feature herein. In my ever-growing desire to figure all this 'music making' stuff out, I've wanted to try my hand at ‘drag and drop’ drum samples. My good friend Jeremy [https://soundcloud.com/jeremyjsaks] was nice enough to offer up some of his hand-crafted drum kits for the experiment. And I must say, I'm quite pleased with how my first attempt turned out. Oh sure, I have a whole lot more to learn. But now I have a pretty good understanding of the basics, and that makes me even more dangerous (Mwaaahaha). So, giving credit where credit is due, these drums you're hearing are from Jeremy's 'Hydrogen' collection [https://soundcloud.com/soundsourcefundamentals]. Thank you, my friend. I hope I did them justice. :D Now on to the song notes.)

Humor me, and use the span of this song for a moment of reflection. I know that seems like a simple enough task, but it’s something we seldom do. We don’t very often stop what we’re doing, to ask if we’re happy doing what we’re doing.

We all do it, to some degree. We all tend to gravitate toward distraction, as a poor substitute for satisfaction. For me personally, it’s usually the TV or video games (paired with a beer fog) keeping me from focusing too deeply on the less satisfying aspects of my life. While many members of my family have an amazing knack for always finding projects around the house to keep them occupied.

Regardless of how we distract ourselves, there is always a common thread. If we stay busy enough, we won’t have time to ask ourselves tough questions, like ‘Am I happy?’ We have ourselves believing ‘busy’ or ‘distracted’ means ‘successful life’, and I have a funny feeling the more aware regions of our brain are smart enough to know we are spoon-feeding ourselves a load of crap.

Now there might seem like a huge difference between the fellow who likes to binge-watch TV all weekend and the fellow who likes to spend that time cleaning up the yard. But I would like to suggest they are both aspects of the same coin; separated by the simple distinction of ‘being’ vs ‘doing’. Some of us like to be distracted, and some like to control the distraction. Truth is, at the end of the day we’ve both avoided delving too deep into ourselves; another day spent hiding from our own truth. So here’s my idea…

What would happen if we promised to ask ourselves one simple question, at least once a day… ‘What would make me happy right now?’ Not ‘How can I be what society expects of me?’ Not ‘How can I best serve the people in my life?’ Just ask yourself the mind-bogglingly simple question ‘What would make me happy right now?’

And here’s the beauty of this little practice. Whether we decide to act on it in the moment, or not… we now have a very nice seed germinating in our heads. That certainly has to lead to something, right? I hope you enjoy my latest creation, ‘Idling Minds’. :)

GrevusAnjl

Welcome to my sonic playground. I don't consider myself a skilled musician. I just sculpt sounds to quiet my mind... and often end up pleasantly surprised. I'm all about joy, and silliness, and staying playful as I (refuse to) grow older. My songs help me remember that. :)

Thank you for taking the time to listen and share in my journey. Best wishes and all my love.
