This is my third collaboration with our exceptionally talented friend, K. M. Ende (soundcloud.com/b-p-s-s, kmende.bandcamp.com). I love working with her. Every piece we’ve done has been a grand opportunity to push ourselves into strange new musical territories... and this is by far our strangest. This might be more a frame of mind, than a piece of music. We’ll let you decide.

K. and I have had some eye-opening conversations about the state of the world, from the perspective of two different continents sharing very similar experiences. The commonalities, unfortunately, are disappointing. Times are strange; and fear and greed seem to rule the day.

I don’t want to get too political. That’s already a noise coming at you from every direction. This is just a simple message about sustainability. It doesn’t matter if you believe in global warming or not. It doesn’t matter if you think that guy over there is the enemy because his (fill in the unique descriptor here) doesn’t match your own. The ultimate truth is, as planetary denizens, we all share the same fate. We’re pushing this planet beyond what it can support, in almost every regard. And just imagine what it will be like when we hit 20 billion… or even 50 billion people. If we can’t get along with our neighbors now… how will we handle 5 times that many people packed in next to us?

Being a big video game fan, and being fascinated by how often video game scenarios mimic real life, I’ve often wondered… what if this is all a game? What if this is a computer simulation; and we’re all sprites. And what if the goal of the game is to see if we can escape the planet… before we destroy ourselves.

It’s an interesting theory, really… a survival game designed to test the merit of the participants. If we can get along, and work together, we get to leave the planet (which, by the way, leads to the sequel, the ’Galactic Adventures’ expansion pack).

If we can’t get along… then we get to enjoy one of the many various little surprise endings offered up by the ‘Choose Your Own Adventures - World Disaster’ book. Because, lets be honest, folks… if we can’t play nice with the other people here on the planet, we certainly have no business making a mess of things up there. We hope you enjoy our latest creation, ‘Going Noir Fast.’ :)
